Mongu Mayor Nyambe Muyumbana has donated nine baby hampers to nine Christmas babies at Lewanika general hospital’s maternity ward.
The items worth K 7000 include a dish and a bucket, diapers, wipes, Vaseline and bathing soap.
Mr Muyumbana expressed happiness when handing over the gifts to the mothers stating that the gesture is a sign of love and the best way to celebrate Christmas which symbolises Jesus Christ’s birth.
“I am excited to give these gifts to the mothers and it is a sign of love just like Jesus Christ has loved us,” he said.
Lewanika General Hospital Maternity Ward Nurse in Charge, Veronica Kamulewe said that the nine babies include six boys and three girls with the first one being born around 00:20 followed by a set of twins at 04:00 to 05:00 hours.
Ms Kamulewe mentioned that the mothers as well as the babies were doing fine.
She thanked the Mayor for the gesture adding that the gifts have come as a blessing to the mothers and their babies too.
“We have received nine Christmas babies among them six boys and three girls of which the first one was delivered around 00:20 through cesarean section, followed by a set of twins at around 04:00 to 05:00 hours,” Ms Kamulewe said.
One of the mothers, Lubinda Namasiku thanked God for blessing her with a baby boy and appreciated the Mayor for the gifts given to her.
