CASH FOR WORK INITIATIVE CHANGES FORTUNES IN LUNDAZI

The Cash for Work initiative has changed fortunes in Lundazi district of Eastern province going by the number of projects that have transformed livelihoods there.

At  Kahuji Primary School in the district, a three bedroomed house which is under construction has reached roof level.

The Headteacher, Ero Bumbila  in an interview says the teacher’s house was built in two weeks using readily available pan bricks.

Ms. Bumbila adds that two builders were engaged to carry out the construction works under the cash-for-work programme.
” The school had been grappling with inadequate staff accommodation, ” she says adding that: “Construction of the house would go a long way in addressing staff accommodation challenges at the institution.”
The school head teacher has however appealed to well-wishers to help the school with roofing material.
The development will address the accommodation at the school as most of its teachers stay several kilometres away from the school, a situation which has resulted in absenteeism, especially this rainy season.
She has further appealed to the Constituent Development Fund Committee to consider allocating funds towards the construction of teachers’ houses at the school.
