The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) says it expects soccer fans to demonstrate exemplary behavior in the new year following the 20,000 dollar fine imposed on the association by CAF due to a pitch invasion at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium.

FAZ Communications Manager Sydney Mungala stated that the misconduct by fans during the AFCON qualifiers match between Zambia and Sierra Leone should be the last incident.

In an interview with ZANIS Sports, Mungala emphasised that the sanction should serve as a punishment not just to the association but also as a lesson to soccer fans.

He stressed that football is meant to be enjoyed and that throwing objects at players and officials is unacceptable.

He further emphasised the importance of fans creating a positive atmosphere for football, ensuring a safe and enjoyable environment for families attending the games.

Mungala noted that the association has made significant efforts to enhance security measures to prevent people from entering stadia with bottles or other objects.

He also warned that soccer fans risk being barred from watching games and could face legal consequences for unruly behaviour.

He also mentioned that the association plans to make examples of certain punishments public to deter misconduct.

Mungala however, applauded fans for their unwavering support of the national teams despite the sanctions on the association.

He assured fans of an improved football environment in 2025.
