Four people have perished in a road traffic accident involving two unregistered motor bikes in Senga Hill.
Confirming this in an interview with ZANIS, Northern Province Police Commanding Officer Lucky Munkondya said three died on the spot and the fourth victim was pronounced dead upon arrival at Mambwe Mission Rural Health Center.
Ms Mukondya revealed that the accident occurred around 20:00 hours on Christmas day at Munsimbwe Village along Chimula to Mambwe Mission Road.
One motorbike from Chimula had four people while the other one in the opposite direction had three people on board and collided
collided head on killing the trio on the spot.
Ms Munkondya has identified the deceased persons as Nathan Sichangwe 35, Eurek Simwinga 35, and Jonathan Sikazwe 40, all of Munsimbwe Village in Senior Chief Nsokolo who sustained severe head injuries and died on the spot.
The other deceased person was identified as Martin Sikalumbi 43, of Malamba Village in Senior Chief Nsokolo who also sustained head injuries and died on the way to the rural health post.
Francis Sikazwe 33, of Munsimbwe Village, Willard Sikalumbi 34 of Malamba Village and Gilbert Simpemba 45 of Kawala village survived the accident but with severe injuries.
Among the dead are both riders of the Kinglion and Star bikes which where extensively damaged.
Ms Munkondya said the survivors were attended to at Mambwe Mission and later referred to Mbala General Hospital.
The four bodies were deposited in Mambwe Mission Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem before burial.
