A suspected mental patient of Kitwe’s Buchi area has escaped a serious injury after having his private parts almost cut by an unidentified criminal.
Copperbelt Province Police Commanding Officer, Peacewell Mweemba disclosed that the victim who is suspected to be a mental patient is usually found at a dumpsite behind Zambeef Buchi branch in Kitwe.
Mr Mweemba stated that on 26th December 2024, around 05:30 hours, young boys who usually pick plastic bottles at the dumpsite found the suspected mental patient having his testicles almost being cut by unidentified criminal.
“Upon this criminal seeing the boys that is how he ran away leaving the knife at the scene, “stated Mr Mweemba.
Mr Mweemba disclosed that Moses Nkole, a Community Crime Prevention Unit (CCPU) officer, reported the matter to the police station.
“The police officers were informed and rushed to the crime scene and checked the victim, that is how they discovered that the testicles were almost cut as he sustained a big cut on the foreskin and was bleeding profusely,” he said.
Mr Mweemba stated that the victim is currently receiving treatment at Kitwe Teaching Hospital where he is admitted in the emergency ward, adding that his condition is stable.
He said a docket has since been opened and investigations in the case have been instituted.
