Acting Minister of Health Douglas Syakalima says two new cholera cases have been recorded in Nakonde in the last 24 hours bringing the total number recorded to 15.

Mr Syakalima, notes that to this effect, 197000 people will be vaccinated with Oral Cholera Vaccine in Nakonde starting on Tuesday.

He explains that so far no cholera deaths have been recorded.

ZANIS reports that speaking before touring the Central Business District in Lusaka, Mr Syakalima, said seven cholera patients have been discharged, while eight are receiving treatment.

Mr Syakalima has also directed the Lusaka City Council to close down shops that are not adhering to the hygiene and preventive measures put in place by the government.

The Minister said that the disease can be contained when members of the public take preventive measures to avoid the spread and contraction of cholera.

Mr Syakalima has since called for concerted efforts in the fight against cholera, as everyone is at risk of contracting the disease.

He appealed to the media to continue disseminating cholera messages to the public and not tire of raising awareness.

Meanwhile, one of the traders at Lusaka City Market, Mary Maimisa has advised fellow traders at the market to ensure proper hygiene.
