The Zambia Medical Association (ZMA) has urged members of the public to enhance personal hygiene in order to prevent the further spread of cholera.
ZMA president Kaumba Tolopu, says the state of uncleanliness in communities, uncollected garbage and open dumping of garbage poses a risk of cholera outbreaks.
ZANIS reports that speaking at the End of Year press briefing today, Dr Tolopu has urged the public to practice personal and environmental hygiene.
Meanwhile, ZMA has also noted the significant reduction in maternal health mortality ratio.
He said this has decreased from 187 deaths per 100,000 live births to 119 and 255 deaths per 100,000 live births.
Dr Tolopu, disclosed that the percentage of live births assisted by skilled personnel increased from 49% to 94% in 2024.
He highlighted the reduction in child mortality and child health, including childhood diseases from 43 deaths per 1000 live births in the last 5 years to 17 deaths per 1000 live births in 2024
