MARKETEERS URGED TO PRACTICE HYGIENE

The Zambia National Marketeers Credit Association (ZANAMACA) has appealed to its members in the country to practice hygiene standards.

ZANAMACA President Mupila Kameya says it is necessary for marketeers to keep their surroundings clean especially now during the cholera outbreak.

Mr Kameya adds that it is a collective responsibility to maintain cleanliness throughout the year, not just during the rainy season.

He said this in a telephone interview with ZANIS.

“Sectional leaders and market leaders oversee market surroundings’ hygiene nationwide’’, he said.

He added that partnerships with organisations like the Keep Zambia Clean Campaign and the Lusaka City Council have helped to support the initiative.

Mr Mukeya highlighted that the association conducts frequent market inspections to ensure market hygiene standards.

He said marketeers are expected to keep trading areas clean, just as they maintain their homes.

“Everyone must participate, including manufacturing companies, to supplement government efforts,” he said.

Mr Mukeya further explained that, ZANAMACA conducts year round cleaning activities which maintains the markets cleanliness beyond the rainy season.

He has since called on Market leaders, traders, manufacturing companies and the community to work together to support market cleanliness.
