CHILUKUTU HAPPY WITH MAIZE PERFORMANCE AT NANSANGA FARM

ZAMBIA Correctional Service Commissioner General Fredrick Chilukutu has expressed satisfaction with the performance of the maize planted at Nansanga farm in Serenje District of Central Province.

Speaking shortly after touring the maize fields, Mr Chilukutu said he is pleased that the maize is looking promising despite the erratic rains that characterized the start of the 2024/2025 farming season.

He explained that the poor rainfall witnessed at the start of the farming season stressed the maize.

Mr Chilukutu however, indicated that the maize is showing good signs of recovering from stress induced by the erratic rains.

He expressed confidence that if the rains continue without disruption, Nansanga farm will greatly contribute to the country’s food basket.

Mr Chilukutu disclosed that the Correctional Services at Nansanga farm has planted five hundred hectares of maize in the 2024/2025 farming season.

Mr Chilukutu further explained that the initiative of planting maize is a response from President Hakainde Hichilema’s directive to defence and security wings to get involved in maize production.

He expressed optimism that Nasenga farm will record a good harvest all things being equal.

Mr Chilukutu hoped that the favorable rains witnessed at the start of January this year will continue into next month.

He said this will allow the maize to fully grow and produce good cobs.
