RESIDENTS of Hamayuwa in Chief Naluwama of the Moomba Chiefdom has called on Chikankata Town Council to provide Marketeers with toilets to prevent the outbreak of water borne diseases such as Cholera.

Hamayuwa Committee Member, Green Besa Matente has expressed concern that there are no council toilets at Shamayuwa market despite the local authority collecting levies every month.

Mr Matente said Marketeers are aggrieved by demanding council toilets at Shamayuwa market.

He said this today in an interview with the Zambia News and Information Services in Chikankata district of Southern Province.

He said people are undertaking open defecation at Shamayuwa market which is dangerous.

Mr Matente wondered why Chikankata Council has lamentably failed to construct council toilets at Shamayuwa market despite several appeals from residents.

He said Cholera is looming at the trading place and urged the council to quickly move in and construct modern toilets using Constituency Development Fund (CDF).

“There is a need for toilets at Shamayuwa market . People are doing open defecation which is not good,” said Mr Matente.

He said the council is collecting levies every month from poor Marketeers but the Local authority is not providing social amenities for its people.

He disclosed that Marketeers are using Private toilets to answer a call of nature.
