SENGA Hill Member of Parliament Henry Sikazwe has issued a seven-day ultimatum to illegal miners at Mumole Gold Mining in Senga Hill District in Northern Province to vacate the area.
ZANIS reports that Mr Sikazwe who is also Muchinga Province Minister issued the directive when he visited the area in the company of officers from the Zambia Police Service.
Mr Sikazwe is concerned that from the time gold was discovered in Mumole village, people have continued to evade the area to engage in illegal mining activities.
He observed that those engaged in illegal gold mining are working under hazardous conditions threatening the safety of people and the environment.
Mr Sikazwe said the government will not condone any illegal mining activities in the area.
The lawmaker observed that the use of explosives and chemicals is not only hazardous to people but the environment as well.
Mr Sikazwe warned that the law will catch up with anyone who will not abide by the directive.
