KABWE Municipal Council (KMC) has set aside K1.5 million to procure 1000 more school desks for schools in Kabwe Central Constituency using the 2024 Constituency Development Fund (CDF) allocation.
KMC Director of Planning Chansa Mwila says the procurement of school desks is in line with President Hakainde Hichilema’s directive of ensuring that no child sits on the floor.
In an interview with ZANIS, Mr Mwila said once the procurement process is completed; the desks will be distributed to schools in all the 14 wards of Kabwe Central Constituency.
“The process of buying school desks is currently at the procurement stage. As a Council, we will ensure that quality desks are procured to realise value for money,” Mr Mwila said.
He said the procurement of 1,000 additional desks will greatly improve the learning environment in schools.
“This programme of buying desks is an ongoing programme which is aimed at benefiting all the schools in the district,” he said.
He stated that the council will continue creating a favourable learning environment for the learners in the district through the provision of desks and the required infrastructure.
He urged more people to get involved in the production of desks to equally benefit from the programme of supplying furniture to the schools in the district.
Mr Mwila further said the local authority is also expanding school infrastructure in both Bwacha and Kabwe Central Constituencies.
He said the increase in CDF allocation from. K1.6 million to the current K36.1 million has made it easy for the council to implement various programmes in the district.
