Zambia Sports Fans Association Patron Peter Makembo has described the late Pastor Moses Chiluba as a man who was passionate about developing grassroot football.
Pastor Makembo has stated that this is evident from the sacrifice the late Pastor Chiluba made by individually sponsoring two football teams in Lusaka.
He said this in an interview with ZANIS during the burial of the late Pastor Chiluba at Leopards Hill Memorial Park in Lusaka yesterday.
” It was so hard for him to run this team. He had to dip into his pockets to ensure they ate while in camp and they had soccer boots and more.”
Makembo has also described Pastor Chiluba as a unifier who played a key role in reconciling the late first Republican President Dr Kenneth Kaunda and late second republican President Fredrick Chiluba in the 90s.
In a separate interview, George Chinga, a player in Camnet Stars, one of the teams founded and sponsored by Pastor Chiluba, described him as a pillar who desired to see them play professional football.
He also remembers him as a father figure who prioritized the teams’ welfare.
Mr Chinga has since pledged to work hard in order to break into professional football in order to realise Pastor Chiluba’s vision for the team.
“He was a father to the entire team, including the coaches. We called him Dad. So, this loss is a bitter pill to swallow for us.” He lamented.
