Over 1,900 vulnerable households have received farming inputs under the Food Security Pack (FSP) programme through the Department of Community Development in Mansa District.
The farming inputs to be applied in the 2024/2025 farming season include D-compound and Urea fertilisers and maize seed.
ZANIS reports that Mansa District Community Development Officer, Tikambenji Kang’ombe has disclosed this saying the Department received and distributed 3,806 by 50 kg bags of Urea fertilizer, 3,806 by 50 kg of D-compound fertilizer and 1,903 by 10 kg bags of maize seed.
Ms Kang’ombe noted that the farming inputs are expected to improve food security, nutrition and increase income levels for beneficiary households.
“We have distributed a total of 1,903 beneficiaries across the district and this is besides the 3,300 beneficiaries that received farming inputs under the wetlands cropping component earlier for the same farming season,” Ms Kang’ombe said.
Meanwhile Monga Community Welfare Assistant Committee Chairperson, Amos Kabobwe commended the government for its efforts to address household poverty through various social protection programs.
Mr Kabobwe has since encouraged beneficiaries to take advantage of these programs in order to improve their living standards at household and community level.
He stressed that it will be a great disservice to the government if beneficiaries sell or fail to utilise the inputs as intended.
“It would be very disappointing to hear that some people are selling these inputs instead of farming themselves, I am encouraging all beneficiaries to put the inputs in their farms. This is when they will fully appreciate the benefits of this program” Mr Kabobwe said.
