Minister of Education Douglas Syakalima says the new education curriculum, once enacted, will position Zambia on the global stage.
Speaking when he officially launched the Teachers Competence-Based Curriculum Training at the National Science Centre in Lusaka, Mr Syakalima said the Competence-Based Education (CBE) aligns with the country’s 8th National Development Plan (8NDP).
ZANIS reports that Mr Syakalima also noted that the competence-based training is a milestone to his ministry’s unwavering dedication to fulfilling the vision set out by President Hakainde Hichilema.
He noted that the introduction of CBE is a step forward in the transformation of Zambia’s educational system.
“It will empower our learners with the skills and knowledge to compete globally and contribute to the development of our nation,” Mr Syakalima said.
He also emphasized that the CBC, which was designed to develop practical skills, critical thinking, plus problem-solving abilities among students, will ensure that Zambian students are prepared for the challenges and opportunities of the 21st century.
Speaking at the same event Director for the National Science Center Benson Banda said the teacher training will ensure that every essential aspect as well as parameter that is needed to make sure that the curriculum is delivered in the classroom is available by Friday.
Dr Banda stated that the resource center structure is ready, saying that after the three days teachers training, the teachers should be ready to face that learner under the new curriculum.
And Kabulonga Boys Head of the Mathematics Department, Darius Mangwato who spoke on behalf of teachers noted that teachers are key in actualizing the Competency-Based Curriculum.
