MBALA’S PRESIDENT AVENUE, BRIDGE TO BE COMPLETED-RDA

The Road Development Agency (RDA) in Mbala district, Northern Province has advanced rehabilitation works on the President Avenue and construction of a bridge.

RDA Provincial Engineer Cleverson Mweemba said works on the road that connects the Central Business District have reached at over 70 percent completion.

Mr Mweemba disclosed that most major structural works on the project have been done and only minor works are remaining for the road to be completed.

He said only primary works such as rising gravel on top of the bridge to provide a smooth surface for vehicles and pedestrians have remained.

Mr Mweemba emphasized that the rehabilitation is a top priority, adding that the route features a river that often overflows, rendering the road impassable and disrupting access to the town’s central business district.

“The goal is to complete the works after receiving the additional funds, this will ensure all year-round accessibility for motorists and residents,” Mr Mweemba stated.

ZANIS reports that the rehabilitation of the road is expected to bolster economic activity in Mbala by improving connectivity to the central business district, enhancing the movement of goods and services.
