WEST RECEIVES CHEMICALS FOR ARMYWORMS ERADICATION

Ministry of Agriculture in  Western Province has intensified measures to control the spread of army worms that have attacked most fields in the region.

Provincial Agriculture Coordinator Rodwell Muntanga says the department has concentrated on spraying highly infested fields.

He said chemicals used to eradicate army worms are available and have been distributed in all the affected camps in the districts.

Mr Muntanga has since advised affected farmers to visit the office of the District Agriculture Coordinator in their respective areas and access the chemicals.

“We are working on the control measures and our approach is to prioritise the highly infested areas,” he said.

Mr Muntanga said the average infestation rate in the province was currently at 14 percent and districts such as Mongu, Kaoma, Kalabo and Limulunga are the most affected.

Mr Muntanga further stated that 15,000 hectares of land in the province have been affected.
