FORESTRY DEPARTMENT ENCOURAGES SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE

The Forestry Department has implored Kasempa farmers to practice sustainable agriculture as a means to preserve and manage forests.

District Forestry Officer Kibra Mweetwa emphasised the importance of sustainable agriculture practices in forest management during a meeting with farmers in Kelongwa area of Kasempa.

Mr Mweetwa reminded farmers that sustainable agriculture protects land or forests from destruction and deforestation

He urged farmers to adhere to sustainable agriculture practices for effective land use and forest conservation.

“That is why, when you are talking about sustainable forest management, we also talk about sustainable agriculture practices, because once you do, sustainable agriculture practices will help us to manage the forest properly,” Mr Mweetwa added.

 “When you are practicing sustainable agricultural practices, you do not destroy a large piece of forest or land, because sustainable agricultural practices, you will have good productivity within a small parcel of land, meaning the forest will be protected,” he added.
