The Ministry of Information and Media has expressed its readiness to collaborate with the Ministry of Health and other Ministries to raise awareness about the Mpox disease in the country.
Information and Media Permanent Secretary, Thabo Kawana, states that the Ministry is prepared to assist in public sensitisation efforts through various media platforms, once engaged by the Ministry of Health.
In an interview with ZANIS in Lusaka today, Mr Kawana emphasised that the Ministry has always been willing to participate in health initiatives, as demonstrated in previous collaborations.
He cited COVID-19, Cholera, and other outbreaks where the Ministry worked closely with the Ministry of Health to raise awareness among the public on how to protect themselves from the disease.
Meanwhile, Lusaka residents have urged the government to enhance public awareness and education on Mpox, following the confirmation of cases in the country.
According to the Ministry of Health, six cases of Mpox have so far been recorded.
Mpox (monkeypox) is an infectious disease caused by the monkeypox virus. It can result in a painful rash, swollen lymph nodes, and fever.
