KALUMBILA District Commissioner Brenda Sankisa has commended government efforts through the Ministry of Community Development and Social Services for the programmes it is implementing in the District.
Mrs Sankisa says the social security programmes and initiatives are uplifting the living standards and lessening the vulnerability of the people in the community, especially women.
She disclosed that over 12,000 beneficiaries are benefiting from the Social Cash Transfer programme.
ZANIS reports that the DC was speaking when a team from the Ministry of Community and Social Services (MCDSS) headquarters paid a courtesy call on her in Kalumbila on Tuesday.
Ms Sankisa DC added that, last year over 890 benefited from the Food Security Pack (FSP) and about 6000 from the emergency cash response in the 12 wards of the district.
She further explained that from FSP they are able to pay back adding that from the 2022 recovery the department purchased goats and last year procured hammer mills.
Meanwhile, Ms Sankisa also appeals to the government through the Ministry to look into the issue of transport for the department of Community Development in the District.
And Ministry of Community Development and Social Services (MCDSS) Principal Planner Weka Banda expressed gratitude for the programmes that the Ministry is implementing that are changing the livelihoods of the community in the district.
