ZAMBIA DEAF VISION CALLS FOR ACCESS TO TECHNOLOGY

The Zambia Deaf Vision (ZDV) has called for accessible technology for its members.

ZDV Executive Director Joseph Mwaba, says a person with hearing impairment also has the right to information technology as well as communication tools.

In an interview with ZANIS in Ndola, Mr Mwaba appealed to the government and other well-wishers to assist the deaf community with new technology training and other advancement opportunities.

He noted that the government should incorporate persons who are deaf into specific technology, educational resources, communications tools as well as artificial intelligence with the aim of capacity building.

Mr Mwaba has since called on enhanced and deliberate inclusive technology in all spheres of life in order to build capacity for persons who are deaf.

“I have seen new technology around the world, If the Ministry was to incorporate new technology in training the persons who are deaf it would be a wonderful thing,” he said.

Meanwhile, speaking after listening to persons with disabilities concerns in Ndola, International Labor Organisation (ILO) Country Office Director for Zambia, Malawi and Mozambique, Wellington Chibebe called on all stakeholders to come together to ensure that no one is left behind.

“Let’s work together, holding hands together by moving as one. We will get somewhere,” he noted.
