CHIEF Chimese has thanked President Hakainde Hichilema for uniting traditional leaders in the country.
The traditional leader has also commended the government for the construction of chief’s palaces across the country.
ZANIS reports that Chief Chimese said this when Zambia Correctional Service Commissioner General Fredrick Chilukutu visited the palace in Mansa district during his tour of palaces in Luapula province.
“We have seen chiefs attending traditional ceremonies for other chiefs in different provinces, this is helping us know each other and uniting us as chiefs,” he said.
Chief Chimese said the move by government has helped traditional leaders to interact and share ideas on how to manage and develop their chiefdoms.
“The visits to different provinces and attending traditional ceremonies from other regions is also strengthening the spirit of the One Zambia One Nation motto which is good for national unity,” he added.
Another traditional leader Chieftainess Chipili said construction of palaces will give dignity to traditional leaders.
She stressed her appreciation to the government for considering construction of the chief’s palaces as most palaces were not in good condition.
“In my case where I am staying, it’s a rented house because the old palace was in a bad state, so these palaces you are constructing for us will help us a lot and bring dignity to the chieftaincy,” she added.
She also pledged to continue working with the government in fostering development.
And Zambia Correctional Service Commissioner General Fredrick Chilukutu says the service wants to ensure palaces are completed by March.
He said the service was also working hard to deliver quality works on the project.
“As a service we want to ensure we deliver quality work and on time so that traditional leaders can move into more comfortable accommodation,” he said.
Mr Chilukutu added that his visit to the sites was also to ensure the works were progressing well and within the stipulated time.
He further assured the traditional leader of continued corroboration to enhance development.
Meanwhile, Mr Chilukutu advised officers to adhere to quality and timeliness.
He advised them to be mindful of the need to be professional and interpret drawings.
