PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema is set to undertake an official visit to Tanzania, where he will attend the Mission 300 Africa Energy Summit scheduled for January 28, 2025, in Dar-es-Salaam.
The summit aims to promote universal access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy by 2030, aligning with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal 7 and the African Union Agenda 2063.
ZANIS reports that this is according to a press statement released by Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Mulambo Haimbe in Lusaka today.
“The Mission 300 initiative, launched in April 2024, seeks to provide electricity access to 300 million people by 2030, combating energy poverty, unlocking economic opportunities, and fostering sustainable growth across Africa,” Mr Haimbe said.
He added that the summit will bring together African Heads of State and Government, high-ranking officials, senior policymakers, and development partners to drive this initiative forward.
Mr Haimbe stated that President Hichilema’s attendance at the summit demonstrates Zambia’s commitment to enhancing energy access, diversifying the energy mix, and attracting investment to meet growing demand.
“The summit will also provide an opportunity for President Hichilema to hold bilateral meetings with other leaders to discuss regional and global issues of mutual interest,” he added.
He further disclosed that the Ministerial Conference will precede the summit on January 27, 2025 and President Hichilema is expected to return to Zambia immediately after the conclusion of the summit.
