NDOLA COUNCIL TO CONSTRUCT TOWNSHIP ROADS

The Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development is expected to construct about 30 Kilometers of roads in Ndola District this year.

Ndola Mayor Jones Kalyati disclosed that the Initiative aims to address the poor condition of many township roads, which most residents have criticized as being unworthy of a city.

Mr Kalyati said the project would commence as soon as the rains minimized, adding that the district’s population has increased, hence the need to construct more roads.

Mr Kalyati stated that the project has been evaluated and is at Procurement stage with the materials and the constructor already on site.

“Most of the roads need to be redone and the local authority cannot manage to do all these so we had to engage stakeholders such as the Private companies including Zambezi Portland Cement that has helped us to do the roads and other activities in the district,” he said.

Mr Kalyati said that among the roads expected to be done in 2025 is President Avenue in the Central Business District (CBD) stretching about 2.8 kilometers, Mina Soko road stretching about 5.4 kilometers and Luwentho road with a stretch of about 2.9 kilometers.

He said that other roads included Kwacha road stretching about 3.1 kilometers across the central hospital to Chifubu constituency which was lastly done in 1999 by phoenix construction, Petauke crescent of about 2.8 Kilometers, Kabelenga road which was a special road because it holds the presidential lodge of 2.2 kilometers among other roads.

Alex Chola, one of the motorists, thanked government for coming to the aid of Ndola adding that the roads have been in a deplorable state for some years now .
