GOVT. LAUNCHES STUDY REPORT TO GROW TOURISM SECTOR

Minister of Tourism, Rodney Sikumba, has called on stakeholders to build capacity in the tourism sector and grow the Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) business.

Mr Sikumba, has further urged stakeholders to take advantage of the opportunities presented by the MICE sector, citing its potential to create jobs, stimulate economic growth, and promote cultural exchange.

Speaking at the launch of the study report on harnessing MICE for Zambia’s Tourism Sector Growth, Mr Sikumba emphasised the need for capacity building, infrastructure development, and innovative marketing strategies to attract more MICE events to Zambia.

ZANIS reports that the Minister noted that the launch of the study on Harnessing MICE for Zambia’s Tourism sector marks a significant milestone in the country’s efforts to diversify its economy.

Zambia Institute for Policy Analysis and Research (ZIPAR) Interim Executive Director, Zali Chikuba, highlighted policy recommendations aimed at promoting Zambia as a premier MICE destination.

Mr Chikuba highlighted some recommendations which include establishing and implementing a national convention bureau, implementing a single licensing initiative to reduce costs and streamline multiple licensing requirements, as well as developing the International Convention Centre in Livingstone among others.

He noted that the study’s findings would inform policy decisions and guide the development of a comprehensive MICE strategy for Zambia.

“The strategy would focus on identifying and developing marketplaces, improving infrastructure and services, and enhancing the overall MICE experience in Zambia,” he said
