Zambia is for the first time hosting the 18 member state African Regional Labour Administration Centre (ARLAC) governing Council for labour and employment symposium.
Minister of Labour and Social Security, Brenda Tambatamba, says the 51st ARLAC governing Council for labour and employment is aimed at fostering a stronger, and more dynamic workforce for Africa.
ZANIS reports that speaking when she addressed the media at her Ministry in Lusaka today, Ms Tambatamba highlighted the economic benefits of Zambia hosting the symposium, noting that it will enhance tourism, promote regional collaboration and enhance local businesses.
She noted that ARLAC aligns with the government’s vision to foster socio-economic growth and position the country as a hub that fosters sustainable employment.
Ms Tambatamba added that the mandate for ARLAC is to provide a policy framework and strengthen labour systems in its 18 member countries through various activities that improve labour standards on the continent.
The symposium which is slated for the 11th to 13th February 2025, is expected to be officially opened by the Vice President, Mutale Nalumango, at Mulungushi International Conference Centre, bringing together cabinet ministers from across the continent, Permanent Secretaries, Labour Commissioners, Seniour Government Officials, among other regional and International stakeholders.
