Minister of Tourism, Rodney Sikumba, says the Ministry has secured US$100 Million to address some challenges faced in the tourism sector.
Mr Sikumba notes that the government is committed to addressing challenges in the sector, among them undeveloped infrastructure and taxation affecting the flow of tourists.
He has explained that the funds secured will support the operationalisation of legislation such as the Wildlife Bill, among other interventions.
ZANIS reports that Mr Sikumba said this at a breakfast meeting with stakeholders in the tourism industry in Lusaka today.
The Minister emphasised the need to address the sector’s challenges, adding that government desires to see the sector thrive.
Earlier, Tourism Council of Zambia Chairperson, Yousuf Zumla, expressed concern over the numerous challenges facing the tourism sector in Zambia.
Mr Zumla, bemoaned the poor infrastructure such as road network leading to national parks as well as mining in game reserves, adding that this reduces the flow of tourists to such areas.
He further appealed to the Ministry of Tourism to intervene in order for the sector to thrive.
