Following government’s recent recruitment of 4,000 health workers, Mambwe District has received 85 new members of staff.
The new workers include 35 Registered nurses, six Clinical Officers, and five Laboratory Technicians.
Others are five Pharmacy Technologists, four Physiotherapy Technologists and Two Environmental Health Technicians (EHTs), all who have been deployed to health facilities in the district.
ZANIS reports that Mambwe District Health Director George Mshanga has confirmed the development in an interview.
Dr. Mshanga described the development as a huge boost to the staffing levels, especially at the newly commissioned Mambwe District Hospital.
He expressed optimism that the District Hospital will now be able to fully respond to the demand for services.
He lamented that some departments at the Hospital were not functioning as the facility was short of staff.
“With the coming in of new staff, the departments at the district hospital that were not operational should start functioning now,” he said.
Dr. Mshanga said that among the deployed staff are eight midwives, adding that this will improve maternal and child health care.
Dr. Mshanga however said more general workers were needed especially at the District Hospital as the staffing levels of this cadre are currently low.
