OVER 14, 0000 ANIMALS VACCINATED IN CHASEFU

The Veterinary Department in Chasefu District, Eastern province has vaccinated 14,418 animals in the last quarter of 2024.

This is against 14,000 animals that were initially targeted.

ZANIS reports that District Fisheries and Livestock Coordinator, Augustine Kapembwa, during a senior management meeting attributed this success to overwhelming support from cooperating partners such as the World Bank.

Mr. Kapembwa further revealed that the district recorded a number of animal diseases, with East Coast Fever (ECF) being the most significant.

This resulted in 63 cases, of which ten led to fatalities, while 53 cases were treated.

The Fisheries and Livestock Coordinator further highlighted that under the livestock development initiative, pasture seeds had been planted as demonstration projects.

“These projects will be showcased to farmers during the upcoming agricultural field days, with the goal of educating them on how to harvest and store such crops for their livestock during the dry season, when fresh grass for grazing is unavailable,” Mr Kapemmbwa said.
