CHASEFU District Agricultural Coordinator, Alphonce Kahalawe, has revealed that six motorcycles were procured in the district during the fourth quarter of 2024.
ZANIS reports that Mr Kahalawe says the acquisition of the motorcycles is aimed at enhancing the operational capacity of camp officers across the district and improving service delivery.
He explained that the motorcycles would be particularly beneficial to camp officers working in remote areas of the district by enabling them to respond more efficiently to the needs of farmers.
“Chasefu District is vast, and the work of camp officers often requires them to cover large and often difficult-to-reach areas. So these motorcycles will provide much-needed mobility, ensuring that officers respond quickly and effectively to the needs of the farmers in those areas,” he explained.
Mr Kahalawe highlighted that apart from improving mobility, the motorcycles would also have a positive economic impact, allowing farmers to access vital information more timely, which could lead to increased productivity and higher yields.
He disclosed that camp officers previously relied on their personal transport to travel across the district, which posed numerous challenges.
Mr Kahalawe further noted that using personal transport often resulted in delays and difficulties in reaching certain locations, especially in the rain season when some roads become impassable.
“It was not only an inconvenience but also a significant financial burden for the officers, who also had to bear certain costs such as fuel and maintenance of their vehicles,” he said.
