KAWAMBWA RECORDS INCREASED ENROLLMENT

Kawambwa District in Luapula province  has recorded an increase in pupil enrollment.

At the same time, the District has recorded a reduction in learner dropout rates in months.

ZANIS reports that enrollment rate has increased from about 33,000 in 2024 to 53,290 learners in 2025.

Acting District Education Board Secretary (DEBS), Noreen Kabutu explained during an interview that a total of 45 learners  dropped out of school in 2024 compared to 51 recorded in 2023.

Further,  Ms. Kabutu also explained that the number of teenage pregnancies, among learners,  reduced from 94 recorded in 2023 to 57 in 2024.

This can be attributed to  the successful implementation of government education initiatives like the enhanced school feeding program,  the free education policy and the keeping girls in school ( KGS ) ,  among others.

“The introduction of these government policies has led to a significant increase in student retention, as more pupils are now able to attend school without the burden of hunger or financial constraints,” Ms Kabutu said.

The acting DEBS is confident that the district will improve upon and sustain the gains made so far to enhance access to education in the area.

She has since called for partnerships to consolidate the achievements and to help more children return to school.
