Lufwanyama District on the Copperbelt Province has recorded two cases of cholera involving two female adults.
Lufwanyama District Health Director, Joel Muntanga, has told ZANIS in an interview that both patients are from the same family in Mukumbo area under Chief Lumpuma’s chiefdom.
Dr Muntanga clarified that the first patient was diagnosed in the neighbouring Luanshya District, while the second one was tested in Lufwanyama.
He said according to investigations the first patient traveled to Nakonde last week and went directly to Kasumbalesa before finally going back home to Lufwanyama.
“From the preliminary investigations so far we can safely say the two cases are just imported,” he said.
Dr Muntanga said preliminary tests done so far have shown positive to cholera.
He indicated that the district health team has since set up a quarantine camp at Kamakanga Rural Health Centre.
Dr Muntanga stated that all family members and those who have had close contact with the patients will be transported to the same quarantine area for observation.
He added that the integrated management system team is still in Mukumbo area for more investigations and monitoring of the situation.
