NEW EDUCATION CURRICULUM ROLLED OUT COUNTRY WIDE

THE new competency-based curriculum has officially been rolled out for Form 1, Grade 1, and Early Childhood learners across the country. 

Teachers and pupils have welcomed the change, which aims to equip learners with practical skills and knowledge.

In an interview with ZANIS, St. Raphael Primary School in Chelstone, Senior Teacher Josephine Kunda expressed her excitement about the new curriculum. 

“It’s not so different from the previous curriculum, it has similar topics and the pupils found it very interesting,” she said.

ZANIS reports that Mrs Kunda noted that the new curriculum has grouped subjects into three categories, making it easier for teachers to focus. 

She highlighted that the previous curriculum had six subjects for Grade 1, while the new curriculum has combined them into three groups.

Meanwhile, St. Raphael Primary School, Early Childhood Teacher, Gronia Mutale praised the Ministry of Education on new curriculum for its practical and hands-on approach. 

Ms Mutale said Children will be able to learn skills at a young age, as the curriculum requires learners to practice their skills, gifts, and talents.

However, Munali Boys Secondary School, Headteacher Titus Hara also expressed happiness about the new curriculum.

Mr Hara stated that the school was expecting 700 Form 1 pupils and parents expressed happiness and areexpecting a lot from the new curriculum.

He added that the teachers were trained, confident and ready to teach the subjects in the curriculum.

Munali Boys Secondary School, Head of Department of Expressive Arts, Hamuyamba Tembo welcomed the new curriculum’s focus on practical skills.

Mr Tembo emphasised that the old curriculum was more theory than practical adding that the new curriculum will help pupils stand on their own based on the skills they learn from school when they complete Form 4.

And Munali Boys Secondary School, grade 12 Pupil, John Lupiya praised the new curriculum for allowing learners to focus on subjects that are relevant to their future career paths.
