The Zambia National Women’s Rugby Team concluded their campaign at the 2024 Rugby Africa Women’s Sevens Tournament in Accra, Ghana, finishing in 6th place.
This was after a 12-5 defeat to Tunisia in the 5th Place Final.
ZANIS reports that according to the National Olympics Committee (NOC) on its Facebook page, Zambia began their journey in Pool C with a strong 10-5 victory against Senegal, followed by an impressive 43-7 win over Côte d’Ivoire.
However, their final Pool C Match against Uganda ended in a 31-7 defeat wth two wins out of three, the team advanced to the quarterfinals.
In the quarterfinals, Zambia faced a tough opponent in Madagascar despite a spirited effort, they fell short, losing 19-12 and narrowly missing a place in the semifinals.
This moved them to the ranking phase of the tournament.
They bounced back in the 5th place semifinal with a decisive 31-7 victory over Senegal, setting up a match with Tunisia in the 5th place final.
However, Tunisia emerged victorious in this close contest, defeating Zambia 12-5.
And defending champions South Africa retained their title, overcoming Kenya in the final.
Additionally, South Africa, Kenya, and Uganda have all qualified for the 2025 Challenger Series.
The Team showed great determination and resilience throughout the tournament.
