Mwape names 34 member Copper queens squad for Paris Olympics qualifiers

Zambia Women’s National Team coach, Bruce Mwape has named 34 –Member squad for the next month’s back to back 2024 Paris 2024 Olympics qualifier matches against the Atlas Lioness of Morocco.

Mwape says Madrid CCF attacker Grace Chanda has returned to training with her club after nine months out with illness as this will be the first time the former Red Arrows will be training with the Copper Queens having last featured in the 3-3 draw with Switzerland on 30 June, 2023.

“INDENI Roses, Rhoda Chanda who missed the Angola and Ghana has assignments is also back and so is ZESCO Ndola Girls striker Charity Mubanga together with her teammate Vast Phiri.” He said.

Mwape further said that the team will start the camp on Sunday, 24 March 2024 after the FAZ Women’s Super League weekend fixtures.

Mwape stated that the copper queens will host the atlas lioness at 19:00 on Friday, 5 April 2024 before traveling for the away match on 9 April and the overall winner over two legs will book one of the two available spots for African Nations at the Olympic.

Meanwhile soccer analyst Puncherello Chama expressed happiness with the return of Grace Chanda but added that it is a bit too soon as she has just returned to her base in Spain and needs to gets back to her match fitness.

“It’s going to be a difficult match looking at last year’s record of how we managed to beat morocco in an international friendly match however, this will be a competitive match and fans should be encouraged to turn up in numbers for this game so that the Moroccan’s will feel the intimidation.” Said Chama.
