RTA claims 3 lives of SDA members in Kapiri Mposhi

Three people have died in a Road Traffic Accident (RTA) in Kapiri Mposhi District.

The trio who are believed to be members of the Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) Church in Kapiri Mposhi, died on the spot when an Audi vehicle they were in was involved in a head-on collision with a Toyota Allion along the Great North Road.

Central Province Police Commanding Officer, Charity Munganga, has confirmed the death of the trio which happened last night, Monday, around 20:00 hours on the Great North road around Temwa lay-by in Kapiri Mposhi District.

Ms Munganga said the accident occurred when the driver of the Audi registration number BCD 6109 Ernest Chiwele, 30, was overtaking improperly and hit on the rear right tyre of the Sino Tipper truck registration number AIC 1223 heading the same direction.

She said in the process the Audi driver lost control of the vehicle which went on to collide with a Toyota Allion registration number BLB 6572 coming from the opposite direction driven by Elijah Musonda, 35.

Ms Munganga said three passengers aboard the Audi, all from Kapiri Mposhi, died on spot.

She identified the deceased as Sakala Musonda, 33, of Turn off area,Killien Chisenga and Mercy Ngalande from Turnoff area and Soweto compound respectively whose age is unknown.

A female passenger identified as Vanessa Kapulila, 20, aboard the Audi sustained a cut on the chin while the driver of the same vehicle complained of chest pains.

The driver of the Toyota Allion sustained a cut on the right leg. 

The accident survivors have been admitted to Kapiri District Hospital while bodies of the deceased have been deposited to the mortuary at the same hospital.
