Unknown person dumps baby at Nchanga North Hospital entrance in Chingola

A 12 day old baby has been abandoned  at Nchanga North Hospital in Chingola on the Copperbelt province .

Nchanga North Hospital Medical Superintendent Charles Chishimba explained that the infant was discovered by a security officer on Wednesday April 10, 2024 around 07:00 hours at the entrance of the hospital near the doctors’ offices bundled in a plastic bucket.

The security personnel quickly took the baby inside the hospital for examination by doctors and is currently under the care of the hospital’s nursery ward by specialized medical staff.

However, acting Senior Nursing Officer Marilyn Mweetwa has described the condition of the baby as normal and healthy.

 “As you can see the beautiful baby girl is in good health and everything is normal,” Ms Mweetwa said.

Ms Mweetwa said hospital authorities have since named the baby girl as “Beauty Chola” named after the medical personnel who attended to her on the day she was discovered.

And the local authority in Chingola district has responded to the call to aid the abandoned baby. 

Chingola Mayor Johnson Kang’ombe together with District Commissioner Raphael Chimupi led other government officials to visit the abandoned baby and donated assorted baby items which included clothes and foodstuff.

Mr Kang’ombe said the local authority has a duty to help the needy hence the donation.

And Dr. Chishimba has thanked the local authority for assisting the abandoned infant.

Speaking earlier Chingola Mayor Johnson Kang’ombe disclosed that after news broke out over the abandoned baby girl, some childless couples have reached-out to his office for the possibility of adopting the abandoned baby girl.

And Dr. Chishimba said police are still investigating the matter.
