Four die in RTA, 22 in critical condition-Kasama

-Four people have died on the spot, while 22 others are nursing serious injuries after a road traffic accident that happened in Kasama yesterday involving mobile market operators locally known as Munada traders.

Northern Province Police Commanding Officer, Lucky Munkondya, says the accident happened yesterday around 17:00 hours in Mumana Lupando area, 80 kilometres from Kasama town, along the Luwingu-Kasama road.

Ms Munkhondya who confirmed the incident in an interview with ZANIS in Kasama today said two of the deceased are traders who were on the truck, while two others were pedestrians.

She said the accident happened when the Toyota Sprinter, which was in front of the truck, reduced speed while trying to turn off the road.

She said this resulted in one truck hitting into the other due to over speeding, causing the second truck to hit into the Toyota Sprinter.

Mrs. Munkondya added that it was at that point that the driver of the Toyota Sprinter hit two pedestrians who died on the spot, while the two other passengers who died were in the last truck.

The Regional Commanding Officer has since called on munada traders to abide by traffic regulations to avoid such accidents.

Munada traders are synonymous with sitting on top of trucks that are loaded with merchandise, which they take to the market.
