Water levels continue decreasing-ZRA 

The Zambezi River Authority says river flows at Chavuma gauging station have continued decreasing.

In a statement issued to ZANIS by Zambezi River Authority Public Relations and Communications Officer, Selusiwe Moyo, the four-week comparative chart of Zambezi River flows at Chavuma Gauging Station shows that the water levels have reduced from 706 cubic liters as of May 2024 to 370 cubic liters as of June 3rd 2024.

Ms Moyo states that the four-week comparative chart of Zambezi River flows water level at the Victoria Falls is slightly increasing due to upstream inflows but remains lower than last year’s levels recorded on the same date as shown in the table below.

“Four-week comparative chart of Zambezi River flows at Victoria falls shows an increase from 764 cubic liters as of May 8th 2024 to 928 cubic liters as of 3rd June 2024,” she explained.

She noted that Lake Kariba level has continued to drop compared to the same period last year as shown in the four-week comparative chat.

Ms Moyo indicated that lake Kariba water level has slightly reduced from 478 meters as of May 8th 2024 to 477 meters as of June 3rd 2024.

The Communication Manager assured that the authority will continue to closely monitor the hydrological outlook and the performance of the Kariba catchment and provide the public with timely updates on new developments as they arise.
