Nawa Mubita endorsed by Turkey for Secretary General of INTERPOL

The Turkish Government has promised to consider endorsement of Mubita Nawa for the position of Secretary General for the International Criminal Police Organisation (INTERPOL) following his compelling vision presentation.

Mr Nawa, who is the Director of Administration under the Zambia Police Service, is among four candidates vying for the position of Secretary General, which is a five-year – term appointment.

Mr Nawa had a productive engagement with key Turkish officials in Ankara, including Mr Muslum Ayun, Deputy Director for International Cooperation at Türkiye’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Professor Mustafa Caliskan, Deputy General Director of the Turkish National Police and First-Degree Chief Superintendent.

Both officials, representing the Turkish government, affirmed their support for his candidacy.

During the discussions, Mr Nawa outlined his vision for the International Criminal Police Organization, emphasizing the need for well-defined and coherent regional policies to effectively address global security challenges.

“We stand at a critical juncture where global security demands unified efforts and innovative strategies. My vision for INTERPOL is grounded in collaboration, technological advancement, and regional coherence. Together, we can strengthen our collective capabilities and build a safer global community. I look forward to working closely with Turkey and other member countries to achieve these goals. Thank you for your support and for reaffirming the importance of our partnership”, Mr Nawa stated.

He further emphasized the need for enhanced international cooperation, innovative technological solutions, well-defined regional policies, comprehensive training programs, and community engagement to build trust between law enforcement and the public.

Mr Nawa’s candidacy also received endorsements from the African Union Summit of Heads of State and Government, as well as the Southern African Development Community (SADC).

In expressing his gratitude, Mr Nawa commended the Embassy of the Republic of Zambia to Turkey, led by Ambassador His Excellency Lt. Gen, William Maipambe Sikazwe Rtd, for facilitating his visit.

And Gen Sikazwe conveyed his best wishes to Mr Nawa’s success in his pursuit of the new role.

Meanwhile, Mr Nawa has left Turkey for Cairo, Egypt and Abuja, Nigeria, to continue his campaign trail on the position of Secretary General for INTERPOL.

The interview for the Secretary General position of the global police organization is scheduled for June 25, 2024, in Lyon, France.
