CEEC receives over 1000 applications

The Citizens Economic Empowerment Commission (CEEC) have received a total of One Thousand Six Hundred and Thirty loan applications to the value of 903 million Kwacha from the special call madam for applications in April this year.

CEEC Director General Charles Mungule disclosed that the Commission has received overwhelming response following the request made inviting more applications.

Dr. Mungule who was speaking when he paid a courtesy call on Northwestern Province Permanent Secretary Grandson Katambi also expressed concern at the high rate of loan default from beneficiaries of the loans from the commission.

He said the poor attitude towards loan repayments is frustrating governments plans of Empowering citizens and achieving the 8th National Development Plan.

Dr. Mungule appealed to the Provincial authorities to collaborate with the CEEC to structure loan recovery for the sustainability of the fund in the Province.

And Northwestern Province Permanent Secretary Grandson Katambi says his office is ready to work with the Commission to improve loan recovery in the Province.

Col. Katambi said it is irresponsible for citizens to decide not to repay the loans when they were fully aware that the facilities are loans and not grants.

He said loan beneficiaries need to be reminded of their obligations so that other citizens benefit from the same.
