A 41-year-old woman from Zambia Compound in Mufulira District has died after being hit by an unregistered vehicle in Mufulira’s Orasho area.

Outgoing Copperbelt Police Commissioner, Peacewell Mweemba told ZANIS that Evelyn Kunda was struck by an unregistered Nissan Juke on June 12, 2024, around 14:00 hours.

Mr Mweemba stated that the victim sustained a suspected fractured left leg and complained of general body pains after the accident.

‘’She was admitted to Ronald Ross Hospital but later died around 17:00 hours,” he said.

Mr Mweemba disclosed that the driver of the Nissan Juke, which sustained a depressed bonnet, has been identified as Suzyo Nyirenda, aged 24, from Customs Compound in Mokambo, and escaped unhurt.

“The accident happened when the vehicle, being driven from west to east, lost control due to excessive speed and hit the pedestrian who was walking off the road from east to west,” Mr Mweemba said.

He added that the body of the deceased has since been deposited in Ronald Ross Mortuary awaiting postmortem.
