President Hakainde Hichilema has called on health personnel and other stakeholders to ensure a robust and enhanced cholera fight.
The President said that health personnel, in collaboration with other stakeholders have a responsibility to create awareness on cholera measures to the community, in order to avoid massive deaths.
He pointed out that over 600 people died in the last cholera deadly attack, noting that such a situation should not repeat itself.
Speaking on behalf of the President, when she addressed health personnel at Kanyama level one hospital, Lusaka Province Minister Sheal Mulyata revealed that health personnel have since been urged to serve the community first instead of doing business as usual.
Meanwhile, in an exclusive interview with ZANIS Kanyama Member of Parliament Monty Chinkuli said government remains committed to observing cholera preparedness in his community.
Mr Chinkuli who said among the initiatives to clean the surroundings in Kanyama has been the government’s Cash for Work that has assisted the community in massive clean ups, adding that dump sites have also been cleared.
Speaking earlier, Kanyama Level One hospital Medical Superintendent, Raphael Nzoolo said Kanyama delivers an average of 40 to 50 babies per day.
