THE Zambia National Marketeers Credit Association (ZANAMACA) has partnered with Zambia Alliance for Keep Zambia Clean to spearhead advocacy on sanitation and hygiene that focuses on public places.
ZANIS reports that speaking during a Fundraising Gala Dinner, (ZANAMACA) President, Mupila Kameya says that there is a need for mindset change in order to stamp out cholera and other water borne diseases in public places.
Mr Kameya added that markets are meeting points for the public that are prone to diseases such as cholera, that have the ability of affecting communities if they are kept unclean.
“Some survive, others die, which becomes a cost to their families and very importantly to the government by way of losing qualified emergency public personnel,” said Mr Kameya.
He added that the government is committed to implement health policies that are targeted at improving sanitation in public places.
And Zambia Alliance for Keep Zambia Clean President, Christopher Manda says that his organisation is committed to implement sensitisation programmes in all the provinces with support from President Hakainde Hichilema.
Mr Manda said that their partnership has brought about an introduction of prizes for public places that stand out in sanitation.
He added that the government alone cannot manage to ensure sanitation in public places, which calls for a need for collective strengthened efforts towards sanitation in public places
And Pound stretcher, which was represented by Corporate and Relations Manager, Brenda Daka, who emerged as 1st Prize Winner in sanitation, called upon the private sector to come on board and support such initiatives.
Meanwhile, a Marketeer at Jack Compound Market, Christine Mwale has commended the dual for coming up with a prize giving programme.
Ms Mwale added that the motivation programme will entice marketeers at ensuring that trading places are kept clean.
