SCT beneficiaries increase in Kawambwa

Acting District Social Welfare Officer (DSWO) in Kawambwa District , Israel Kayobe says over 2000 people have been added to the social cash transfer programme in the area.

This brings the total case load to 12,830 beneficiaries.

Mr.  Kayobe explains that  the reason for adding 2,081 more beneficiaries is to ensure that more vulnerable people across the district benefit from the programme.

He disclosed the development in the report presented during the District Welfare Assistance Committee (DWAC) meeting over the weekend.

The department received over k 2, 800, 000  to pay the beneficiaries for January and February 2024 bi-monthly transfers, he hinted.

” K2, 818,600 is  for the beneficiaries who receive their transfers under the rural payment mode as those who are paid through digital payment were paid directly into their mobile phone accounts, ” he said.

The Acting DSWO said the payment of the January and February transfers is currently underway with some complaints from those who are under the digital payment system not receiving their money.

He revealed that some beneficiaries, especially the old people who have no phone handsets have challenges in accessing the funds as their registered sim cards have been blocked due to inactiveness.

The Social Welfare Department in the district has assured the beneficiaries that officers are on the ground ensuring all the challenges being faced by the clients are resolved.
