K73.8 Billion for General Public Services in 2025

Government has allocated K73.8 Billion

under General Public Services in the 2025 National Budget.

Minister of Finance and National Planning, Situmbeko Musokotwane, disclosed that the allocation represents 34 percent of the Budget.

Speaking when unveiling the 2025 National Budget to the National Assembly yesterday, Dr Musokotwane disclosed that K37.3 Billion is for domestic debt servicing while K16.7 Billion for external debt payment.

Dr Musokotwane further stated that K317.2 Million will be allocated for continuous voter registration.

The Minister also set aside K5.7 Billion for outstanding Government bills.

“Further, I propose to spend K5.7 Billion on outstanding Government bills to increase liquidity in the economy,” Dr Muskotwane said.

And the Minister proposed to use 22.4 percent of the budget to stimulate economic activity and improve livelihoods.

Dr Musokotwane announced K48.7 Billion on Economic Affairs.

Hr further proposed K12 Billion for road projects saying a good road network stimulates economic activity and improves livelihoods.

“Of this amount, K12.0 Billion is for construction, upgrade and rehabilitation of roads,” Dr Musokotwane said.

Meanwhile, the Minister proposed to spend K16.2 Billion on social protection, to help improve the living standards of the poor and vulnerable in society.

Dr Musokotwane said from the figure, K8.3 Billion is for the Social Cash Transfer programme which includes the Drought Emergency Social Cash Transfer programme and K2 billion for the Cash for Work programme.

He said the move is a show of commitment by the current administration to improve people’s livelihoods.

“This is a clear demonstration of the commitment of the New Dawn Government

of alleviating poverty and building resilience for inclusive growth and improved livelihoods,” Dr Musokotwane said.

The National Budget is premised on economic recovery and promoting growth to improve the livelihood of the Zambian people.

The budget is themed:  “Building resilience for inclusive growth and improved livelihoods.
