Auditor General refutes claims of late submission of 2023 report

The Office of Auditor General has dispelled media reports suggesting that it has failed to meet its constitutional obligation of submitting the Report of the Auditor General on the Accounts of the Republic for the financial year ending 31st  December 2023, by the deadline of 30th September 2024.

Acting Auditor General Ron Mwambwa says such claims are not only misleading but are a failed attempt to undermine public trust in the work of his office.

Dr. Mwambwa explained that the report was in fact submitted to the President and the Speaker on 25th September 2024 before the deadline of 30th September 2024 in line with the provisions of Article 212 of the Constitution.

He added that the subsequent tabling process by the National Assembly of Zambia which is underway has nothing to do with the President nor the Office of the Auditor General as being portrayed in some sections of the media.

Dr. Mwambwa encouraged the media to be factual and report accurately through verifying information which can be accessed through his office.

He said his office appreciates the role of the media in informing the public, and has reassured of continued commitment to transparency and accountability in its operations as it also continues to engage with stakeholders to ensure the public is well-informed.

This is contained in a statement issued to ZANIS in Lusaka today by Office of Auditor General Head of Public Relations Ellen Chikale.
