Zambia, Qatar to enhance trade, economic cooperation

Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry Second Vice Chairman, Rashid bin Hamad al-Athba says there is a need for Zambia and his country to enhance economic and commercial cooperation .

Dr Al-Athba acknowledged that both countries are bound by close relations and therefore co-operation between them would enhance their trade volume.

He described the interest of Qatari business men in exploring the available opportunities in Zambia as part of Qatar’s broader strategy to invest in Africa.

Dr Al-Athba reiterated that the Qatar Chamber encouraged Qatari businessmen to invest in Zambia, stressing that it is an attractive destination with numerous opportunities in infrastructure, agriculture, mining and other sectors.

Dr Al – Athba was speaking when Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry hosted the Zambia Development Agency (ZDA), led by the Director General, Albert Halwampa, in Doha, State of Qatar.

And Mr Halwampa noted that Zambia was focusing on promoting trade and investment, He referred to the visit of the Zambian President, Hakainde Hichilema to Qatar two years ago.

Mr Halwampa explained the country is progressing rapidly and is eager to enhance the private sector’s role in the Zambian economy, underlining the investment climate in Zambia is favorable due to significant policy and legislative reforms.

He reiterated President Hichilema’s commitment to removing all obstacles facing investments in Zambia through the creation of the Public Private Dialogue Forum and the Presidential Delivery.

“Our aspiration is to strengthen cooperation with Qatar Chamber to develop mutual investments and collaboration between the private sectors of Zambia and Qatar, “said Mr Halwampa .

The meeting focused on ways to enhance economic and commercial co-operation between Qatar and Zambia, the investment opportunities available in Zambia, and the incentives provided for foreign investors.
