CHURCH URGED TO SUPPORT THE FIGHT AGAINST GBV

Gender Division Permanent Secretary Mainga Kabika has called upon the church to support the government’s efforts in combating Gender-Based Violence during the 16 Days of activism against GBV.

Ms Kabika says the increase in reports of harmful acts by those expected to provide safety and refuge for the vulnerable are alarming.

She has added that it is therefore important for various stakeholders to join in the fight against GBV as it is not the sole responsibility of the government.

The Permanent Secretary said this during the launch of Shekinah Bible Church International at Arakan Barracks in Lusaka.

“The fight against GBV requires a collective effort from churches, parents, cooperating partners, civil society organizations, and society at large, not just the government,” Ms Kabika said.

She further stressed the importance of bringing perpetrators to justice to ensure families live in a world free of offenders.

Ms. Kabika also urged all churches to preach against GBV, corruption, and other negative vices, noting that the Bible sets the standard for behavior and warns against such immoralities.

She reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting just causes and prioritizing citizens’ aspirations.

And ZANIS reports that the Permanent Secretary was impressed to witness Shekinah Bible Church overseer Katontoka Yoswa ordained as Bishop while his wife Grace Yoswa was upgraded to the position of Reverend.

She commended the Church for promoting women to high decision-making positions.

“It thrills my heart as Permanent Secretary in Charge of Gender when I see that many women are being recognised in many Ministries and Churches to positions of influence in the spiritual calling. Women’s achievements in the Bible cannot be overemphasized.” Ms Kabika stated.

And newly ordained Bishop Yoswa has pledged his church’s commitment towards providing counsel and guidance not just to its members but also the nation at large.

“Our nation needs wisdom. Not just people who preach but men and women of God who can provide wisdom and guidance.” He said.
