Presidential Advisor for Political Affairs Levy Ngoma has asked chiefs in Northern Province to support the government in the implementation of an all-round farming programme.
Mr Ngoma says government has embraced irrigation farming with the advent of climate change and that such commitment requires the support of traditional leaders who are the custodian of land.
Mr Ngoma said this when he called on Chief Nkole Mfumu yesterday.
And Chief Nkole Mfumu of the Bemba people of Kasama District pledged support to government in implementing irrigation programmes.
Chief Nkole has further offered land for programmes, such as irrigation, to increase agriculture production.
He explained that his chiefdom has arable land near streams that is not being used by the local people but requires commercial development.
